On 27th December 2025, I visited the Manipuri Library and Research Center and enjoyed playing our traditional instrument, the Pena. I also played the flute, Dholak, and Harmonium. I was invited by my aunt (nene) Anju and brought my Pena and flute with me. I performed many songs, sometimes singing while playing the Pena, and other times playing the flute or bass flute alongside my sister, Eche Nisha Thangjam, who is a talented folk singer trained under Oja Marjit, just like me. For some pieces, I played the flute while she sang, and everyone had a wonderful time.
My nene had invited me because there was a folk songs class that day. Many of the children were younger than me, and I felt as if they were all my younger sisters, most of whom were from Bhanubil, where the Library is located.
One of the songs performed that day was “Mapham Shida Leikol Marumda”, in which I played the bass flute. Here are the details:
🎤 Singer: Thangjam Nisha
🥁 Dholak: Leichombam Ahon
🎵 Bass Flutist: Utsho Haobam (me)
📍 Recorded at: Manipuri Library and Research Center
